If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you already know I love a good country song with a little grit, a little heart… and a whole lot of truth.
My second single, “Family Man,” is out now—and it might be one of the most me songs I’ve ever released.
Because here’s the thing: life is loud. Distractions are everywhere. And there’s always something trying to pull your attention, your time, and your priorities in a hundred directions. But for me, the compass has always pointed the same way: home.
The kind of “rich” that doesn’t show up on paper
“Family Man” is written from the perspective of a guy who doesn’t need the flashiest truck, the newest toys, or the wild nights out to feel like he’s winning.
He works hard, punches the clock, fights the rush-hour grind… and when payday hits, he’s not thinking about what he can buy for himself—he’s thinking about what he can do for the people he loves. The song says it plain: there might not be much left in the bank account after the bills are paid… but there’s pride in providing the best life you can.
That’s a message I believe in whole-heartedly.
Choosing the good life on purpose
One of my favorite lines in this song is the one that sums up the whole mindset: “I’ve got dreams like most people do, but my biggest dream has already come true.”
That’s what “Family Man” is really about.
Not settling—choosing.
Choosing your wife. Choosing your kids. Choosing your home. Choosing responsibility when it would be easier to drift. Choosing to be present when the world gives you a million excuses not to be.
And yes… choosing the ultimate symbol of grown-man commitment:
Trading in the old pickup for a third-row minivan. (Country music has never been so brave.)
Why I wrote it
I wrote “Family Man” for the guys out there who love their families loudly—even if they don’t always say it out loud.
For the ones who show love by showing up.
By working.
By sacrificing.
By making the practical choice… and standing tall in it.
This song is my way of tipping my hat to that life.
Release details coming next
The single is available now, and I’m sharing the official release on all major streaming platforms.
Hug your people. Call your mom. Kiss your wife. Play with your kids. And if you’re driving a minivan… just know you’re in your prime.
See you soon,
Darren Hancock
